When Time Travel Meets 2020 Chaos: Reviewing Maxwell Hoffman’s Ty "Turbo" Knight

Most time-travel stories focus on high-stakes paradoxes or distant historical eras. But in Maxwell Hoffman’s omnibus, Ty "Turbo" Knight: Pandemic Interference, 22nd-century trainee Tyler Knight drops into a very specific setting: March 2020 Los Angeles.

Sent on an undercover mission for the Department of Relativity alongside Commander Edla Fromm, Tyler must navigate street-level gang operations while trying to recover stolen heirlooms. The backdrop isn't a glossy sci-fi wasteland—it's early-pandemic LA, complete with masks, COVID shots, and White Batch hoodies.

What really stands out about Hoffman’s storytelling:

Dialogue-First Pacing: Fast, talky chapters move the plot rapidly through museum break-ins and Glendale toy shop heists.
Character Guilt: A simple pocketed toy continues to talk back in Tyler's mind, creating a surprisingly grounded psychological thread.
Non-Traditional Heroics: This isn't a polished hero story—it's a raw look at an undercover trainee trying to earn his commander status.

If you enjoy fast-paced, character-driven sci-fi with an unusual temporal backdrop, check out our full breakdown.

THE REBIRTH by V.P. Evans is an intense thriller that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. The story begins with a dramatic prologue that sets the tone for the rest of the book—dark, suspenseful, and full of intrigue. It’s not just the plot that captures your attention but also the vivid imagery and the raw emotion that Evans injects into his writing. The opening scene with Dermot Walsh, drenched in blood and crawling toward Lake Michigan, is hauntingly cinematic. You can almost feel the cold, wet grass beneath him and hear the mocking footsteps of his killer. The author’s writing style is sharp and precise, painting scenes that are easy to visualize but still leave enough to the imagination. The pacing is relentless, with every chapter bringing new twists and questions. Jason Roneros, the central character, is a complex figure. His interactions with Oscar Brown and his reappearance after years of hiding create layers of mystery that pull you deeper into the narra...
